Wavelab on the Mac
After making the transition from Windows to Mac OS a number of years ago the one application I’ve always mourned losing was Wavelab.
For a pure audio editing and post production environment, Wavelab for me is simply perfect. The most comparable product in the Apple Mac world is Bias Peak, which does look pretty decent I must say, although I’ve never tried it, and going by the prices they are asking for it I doubt I ever will.
Anyway, yesterday afternoon I managed to find an old Wavelab 4 windows installer from 2004. I thought I’d give it a spin through Crossover just to see if it would work or not. Previously I tried Wavelab 5 through Crossover but it wouldn’t have it at all. I’ve installed Boot Camp on my Macbook on a number of occasions when I’ve had to return to the ‘darkside’ and mine out some data and yes, Wavelab (any version) works over there.
However, I hate Boot Camp. It’s not the smooth install-uninstall it claims to be, and once it’s on (or has been on) it leaves performance and security issues lingering on your unit.
My advice would be rebuild your Mac as soon as you are finished with Boot Camp. It’s the only way you’ll ever get that true 100% OS X performance and stability again.
So, back to Crossover and Wavelab 4. Aye, it works a treat.
I know it’s an older version than it’s latest incarnation (version 6) but that doesn’t make any difference (not to me anyway). If you know Wavelab you’ll know that hardly anything has changed since Version 3. Why change something that’s already perfect.
I’ve got Wavelab right there on my Mac desktop now, ready to go at a moments notice without power downs and hold-ups in production and at last, no Boot Camp.
A good result for just a few clicks I’d say.
***UPDATE*** Wavelab 5 does run via Crossover, It’s just the installer that seems to hang but it does get there!
